Material Performance
Low Thermal Expansion
Low thermal expansion limits dimensional changes during heating and cooling, helping maintain mold dimensions through repeated thermal cycles.
High Thermal Conductivity
High thermal conductivity supports efficient heat transfer through the graphite mold, helping control cooling behavior during casting.
Thermal Shock Resistance
Graphite tolerates rapid temperature changes with good resistance to thermal cracking, supporting repeated heating and cooling cycles.
Low Wettability
Low wettability with many non-ferrous molten metals helps reduce metal adhesion to the mold surface and facilitates demolding.
Good Machinability
Graphite can be cut, drilled, milled and bored to produce mold cavities, channels, holes, grooves and other complex geometries.
Manufacturing Process
Raw Material Selection
High-quality graphite materials are selected according to required density, grain size, purity and application conditions.
Forming & Processing
Graphite blocks are produced through forming, baking and graphitization processes to establish the required material structure and physical properties.
Precision Machining
Blocks can undergo CNC cutting, milling, drilling, boring and other machining processes to produce finished mold features according to customer drawings.
Applications
Non-Ferrous Metal Casting
Graphite blocks are used for casting molds, ingot molds, mold inserts, bushings, sleeves and liners for copper, brass, aluminum and other non-ferrous alloys.
Continuous Casting
Used for graphite dies, crystallizer components, die inserts, liners and flow channels in the continuous casting of copper rods, copper tubes, aluminum products and non-ferrous profiles.
Ingot Casting
Used for ingot molds and mold inserts for copper, aluminum, silver, gold and other non-ferrous metals.
Gravity Casting
Used for mold cores, inserts, sleeves and casting molds in gravity casting of non-ferrous alloys.
High-Temperature Metallurgy
Used for sintering trays, furnace fixtures, support blocks and high-temperature tooling in metallurgical and heat-treatment equipment.

FAQ
Q: Is graphite suitable for metal casting molds?
A: Yes. Graphite is widely used for non-ferrous metal casting molds because of its low thermal expansion, high thermal conductivity, low wettability, and thermal shock resistance.
Q: Why is graphite used instead of steel for casting molds?
A: Graphite offers lower thermal expansion, faster heat transfer, and lower wettability with many non-ferrous molten metals, while also allowing the mold to be machined from solid material.
Q: Can graphite molds be reused?
A: Yes. Graphite molds are reusable and are commonly used in repeated casting operations, particularly for non-ferrous metals.
Q: Is graphite suitable for aluminum casting?
A: Yes. Graphite is used for aluminum casting molds, inserts, ingot molds, and related tooling.
Q: Is graphite suitable for copper casting?
A: Yes. Graphite is used in copper casting and continuous casting, including graphite dies, molds, liners, and crystallizer components.
Q: Does molten metal stick to graphite molds?
A: Graphite has low wettability with many non-ferrous molten metals, which reduces metal adhesion and facilitates removal of the cast part.
Q: What causes graphite casting molds to crack?
A: Common causes include rapid temperature changes, mechanical impact, excessive thermal stress, and improper handling. Mold design and operating conditions also affect cracking risk.
Q: Can graphite blocks be used for continuous casting?
A: Yes. Graphite is used for dies, crystallizer components, liners, and other tooling in continuous casting of non-ferrous metals.
Q: What is the difference between fine-grain and coarse-grain graphite?
A: Fine-grain graphite has smaller and more uniform particles, providing smoother machined surfaces and greater detail retention in precision graphite tooling.
Q: How should graphite casting molds be stored?
A: Graphite molds should be stored in a dry, clean environment and protected from impact, contamination, and moisture before use.
